Something that I really like about Fall is that I finally am able to decorate my house with some fun seasonal decor!  It always seems to me that summer is pretty boring when it comes to festive decorations.

Being a (somewhat) newlywed, I am still trying to get a solid collection of decorations for our little home.  This leaves it wide open for me to do whatever I want!

Last year at Halloween time I didn’t have any decorations, and I was way too poor to buy any.  Haha, it was so sad!!  This year, I was completely motivated to change that.  I feel like a house isn’t really a home without all the fine touches that festive things can bring.

I was at the craft store one day with my mom and we were both just kind of wandering around while we were waiting for someone to finish helping her out.  I wasn’t planning on buying anything at the store that day, but we all know what happens when you send a blogger into a craft store.  That’s right, we end up buying something even if we hadn’t planned on it.

While I was there I stumbled upon a decorative candle holder.  It was high upon the shelf where no one could really see it, as if it was meant to be hidden, but I know that I was supposed to find this candle holder because I immediately bonded with it.  It was honestly kind of an ugly thing (I could tell my mom thought that for sure), but I fell in love with it for some reason.  Its dark gray and charcoal streaks were the perfect decoration for my home for Halloween.

I found some candles that fit, but none of them were the color that I wanted.  That’s when I decided to just glitter them, to make them the right color.  At that moment I was sold, and I left the store happy with my purchase.

I’ve been happy ever since.  This is positively the best Halloween decoration I may ever have.  I’m not sure I can compete with this one

The glitter I used was from Meyer Imports.   Meyer Imports specializes in glass glitter…and it’s all from Germany!  Because the glitter is made of glass, it has a shine that no other glitter has (I absolutely love it!).  Do you remember my last project – the Glittered Chevron Necklace Holder?  It’s the same glitter that I used for that (just different colors obviously).

This time I used a glitter from Meyer Imports called Pumpkin Spice, which is a glitter medley made up of ELEVEN different colors, hues, grits, and textures.  It really is one of the most beautiful glitters I have ever seen.   This glitter medley is perfect for any of your holiday creations.   I also used plain black glitter to put in the bottom of my candle holder for a little extra sparkle.

Meyer Imports also has many other glitter medleys (glitters that are composed of more than one color) that are made specially for Christmas, Fall, Valentines Day, and many other fun combinations.  Don’t forget, they have any other color you may need as well  They’re the perfect “go-to” place for glitter!

German Glass Glitter Halloween Candles
Materials:
2 oz. Pumpkin Spice German Glass Glitter
4 oz. Black German Glass Glitter (80 grit)
Mod Podge
4  2-1/2″ decorative candles (preferably black)
Black spray paint (if candles are not black)
Decorative candle holder

Directions:
1. If necessary, spray paint candles black.  **Note: because you are painting wax, it will take a LONG time for the candles to dry.  I did a few coats of paint, and it took my candles almost 3 days to dry.**
2. Cover the sides of the candles in Mod Podge (because it is wax, the mod podge will bead up; just keep painting it on until the mod podge becomes tacky and no longer beads up – about 3 or 4 minutes).
3. Lay out the Pumpkin Spice glitter on some newspaper or other covering.  Roll the candles in the glitter until completely covered.
4. Place your candles on your candle holder.
5. Fill the bottom of your candle holder with the black glitter.
