DIY Glittered Chevron Necklace Holder: A Pinch of Glitter

**Disclaimer: I received product from Meyer Imports in order to write this post.  This post is written by me.  All opinions are 100% mine.

I have always been a HUGE jewelry fan for as long as I can remember.  I don’t ever remember there being a time in my life where I didn’t have lots and lots of jewelry (I suppose that’s what happens when you have an older sister, right!?).  Not only that, but I would often pick out the candy necklaces, and ring pops for my treats at the grocery store if I was lucky enough to get one.  I’m kind of a girly girl when it comes to things like that!

In my home growing up, my dad had built a little shelf into the wall of my bedroom that had a few hooks on it.  I always used those hooks for my necklaces.  There were three hooks.  About two hundred necklaces.  You think I’m kidding, but I’m not.  At one point I got really into jewelry making with little pony beads, and seed beads.  I made so many necklaces and sold them to my next door neighbors for a quarter a piece.

So glad I’m out of that phase.

Fast-forward many years: I moved to college and I no longer had a trusty necklace holder!!  Luckily my necklace collection downsized quite a bit, but I still needed somewhere to put them.  For a few years I put them in a cute little dish on my dresser.  I easily forgot out my necklaces and they got tangled ALL the time.  I decided that needed to change.

So I came up with this necklace holder.

I absolutely LOVE it!  It’s so cute AND functional!  The best part, is that you can decorate it however you want.  Pink and purple are my two favorite colors, so I had to pick those, but you can make it however you wish.

The glitter that I used on this necklace holder is from Meyer Imports.   Meyer Imports specializes in German Glass Glitter.

That’s right.

Their glitter is made from glass.  (And it’s from Germany! – how cool is that!?)

Because the glitter is made from glass, it is SO shiny.  I LOVE it.

Another reason why I love this glitter so much is that it’s not so dusty and flaky and…messy like most glitter.  The glitter that I would normally buy tends to stick to everything, especially ME!  But this glitter doesn’t, and it cleans up very nicely.  I am a huge glitter lover, but I prefer to keep my house glitter free, and I’m sure my husband does too!

Meyer Imports has a HUGE selection of glitter.  Go check out their website or their blog.   They have every color of glitter available.  And not only that, but they offer glitter medleys, which is a mix of different colors of glitter (I will be using a glitter medley in my next project…for Halloween – stay tuned!).   AND.  All these glitters you can buy in different sizes (coarse, fine, ultra fine, etc.).  They seriously have anything and everything you may want.  It’s a glitter lover’s heaven.

The glitter I used on this project (top to bottom):
-Violet Dazzel (beads and glitter!)
-Violet (80 grit)
-Lilac (80 grit)
-Old Rose (80 grit)
-Rose Pastel (90 grit)

Glittered Chevron Necklace Holder

Materials:
2×4 wood cut to desired length
sand paper
Acrylic or Spray Paint
Mod Podge
Meyer Imports Glitter
Cabinet Knobs (purchase at local hardware store)
Ribbon
Hot glue

Directions:
1. Cut 2×4 to desired length (the folks at the hardware store were able to do this for me!)
2. Sand the wood to remove any rough edges.
3. Paint your wood and allow to dry completely.
4. Lightly sketch (I cut out a stencil first!) and “paint” some Mod Podge where you would like to glitter.
5. Immediately pour on a liberal amount of glitter.  Tap off excess glitter and put back into container.
6. Once completely glittered, attach cabinet knobs with hot glue.  (if you would like to drill them in, that would work too, but hot glue worked just fine for me)
7. Wrap ribbon around the ends of the board.  Secure with hot glue.
8. Hang your necklaces on your holder, and hang up your newly created masterpiece!
